The upcoming Northern Region Biathlon Camp on July 3-8th is fast approaching, so get your camping gear dusted off! Register now on Zone4. Please share this information with your club’s athletes who will compete at the Junior Boy/Girl, Senior Boy/Girl or Youth Men/Women categories in the coming season. Stacey, if you could please share this with our Caledonia biathlon families, that would be great.
This camp promises to uphold our reputation for great coaching, lots of coaching, barrels of fun, and hard work. For those athletes who are first-year juniors, there is a two-day camp and for all other athletes, you can choose from a 2, 3, or 5 day camp - lots of options for busy lives! The 2 and 3 day campers would come for the first 2 or 3 days, respectively, as the programming each day builds on the previous days’ learning and effort.
Come to this camp, prepared to learn from some of the best biathlon coaches in North America. Petr Zidek will be returning as the head coach on the range. He has decades of experience coaching the Canadian National Team, Team Alberta, and the Rocky Mountain Racers. We are VERY lucky to have John Jaques joining us on the range. John has also been coaching biathlon for decades, and his most recent success was at the 2018 Pyeong Chang Olympics, where he coached the Canadian Para-Nordic biathletes to unprecedented success. He is also the program director and biathlon coach for the Rocky Mountain Racers. Read more in the attachment about the other amazing biathlon guest coaches (Megan Tandy and Aaron Neumann), strength coach (Kristjan Joubert), and running coaches who will be working hard to develop our athletes and club coaches. Tomas Caslavsky will be heading up the rollerski sessions. Tomas has cross country ski raced internationally, including at the World Cup level, and he won the 1995 American Birkebeiner. Our own Tony Fiala, two-time Canadian biathlon Olympian, will be heading up this team of amazing coaches. And let’s not forget about all the eager club coaches who will be helping athletes and learning themselves.
During the Biathlon BC AGM a few weeks ago, there was a discussion about joining both this Northern Region camp and the BIBC Development and Talent Squad camps together, as one big camp here in Prince George. The BIBC coaching staff preferred to run a separate camp, so it will be held in Prince George from July 7th to the 15th. They have established a schedule to allow athletes to participate in both camps, by having athletes take a break after the Northern Region camp and join into the BIBC camp at the end of the week. The BIBC camp is only open to Development and Talent Squad athletes. If you are looking for information on that camp, please contact Jessica Blencarn at firstname.lastname@example.org.
There is no shortage of biathlon and camping fun in July! We hope to see you out and again, if you have any questions, please give me a shout at home (250-962-7115) or on my cell (250-981-7108).
