Over the past several years, CNSC members have worked together to update our bylaws and strengthen our governance framework. The next step is developing the policies that will guide how those bylaws are put into practice. The Board of Directors is inviting members to review and comment on four draft policies. Your feedback will help ensure these policies reflect the values, expectations, and needs of our membership before they are finalized.

Background – Bylaws and Direction to Board on Policies

At the CNSC Annual General Meeting in October 2025, members ratified updated bylaws and directed the 2025/26 Board of Directors to establish a committee to develop policies supporting the new governance framework, including policies related to privacy, conflict of interest, finance, member conduct, member engagement and communication, strategic planning, and electronic voting.

In response, the Board established a Policy and Governance Committee consisting of Kevin Charlston, Vonda Hofferd, Lanita Horning, and Gretchen Prystawik. The Committee reviewed suggestions submitted since 2023 by members, as well as feedback and contributions previously to the Board and by CNSC Bylaw Committees.  Policies from other ski clubs, guidance from sport organizations, and best practices for British Columbia societies.  All of these have been considered to inform the draft policies now being presented for member review.

Invitation to Review Draft Policies

The Board has approved four draft policies for member review and comment:

• Draft Code of Conduct Policy 
• Draft Conflict of Interest Policy 
• Draft Privacy Policy 
• Draft Strategic Planning Policy  

Members are encouraged to review these draft policies and provide feedback. Comments should be submitted to CNSC Board Secretary Gretchen Prystawik at secretary@caledonianordic.com no later than 11:59 p.m. on October 3, 2026.

Next Steps

The Policy and Governance Committee and the Board of Directors will review all feedback received from members and consider whether revisions to the draft policies are warranted. Following this review, the Board intends to consider approval of the final policies at its regular October 2026 meeting, as supported by the CNSC Bylaws.

The  Policy and Governance Committee has begun work on additional policies relating to finance, communications and member engagement, and voting. As this work is not yet complete, the current Board intends to recommend that the incoming 2026/27 Board continue development of these policies.
