External Funding Resources for Families

Resources to support children from families facing financial barriers:

KidSport (Children 18 and younger) – “Through a confidential application process, KidSport provides grants to kids from families facing financial barriers to help cover the cost of their sport registration fee so they can experience the joy of a season of sport.”

Jumpstart (Children 4 – 18 years old) – “Sometimes, families need financial assistance to get their kids into a sport or physical activity. We’re committed to helping all families access a range of activities, from boxing to bowling and skating to skiing, and more.”

Athlete scholarships

SD57 – Nordic Forest Ltd. Scholarship 

This once a year $500 scholarship is intended to assist the Club’s young skiers wishing to continue their post-secondary education. It is open to any student currently enrolled in a secondary school in School District No. 57 who is a current member in good standing of the Caledonia Nordic Ski Club. The candidates will have demonstrated a high level of academic achievement in the grade 12 year. The candidate will have been an active member of the Caledonia Nordic Ski Club during their senior year, by participating as an athlete, coach/instructor and/or volunteer. A committee of Club Past-Presidents will select the successful recipient.

Candidates should describe in writing their involvement with the Caledonia Nordic Ski Club during their grade 12 year of secondary school. 

The funds for the scholarship are provided by Nordic Forest Ltd.

Nordic Sport Leadership Awards

Full Tuition Award (up to $20,000)

The Full Tuition Award will recognize and reward a student who is involved with the Caledonia Nordic Club while they pursue academic studies at UNBC. The recipient will demonstrate excellence through continuing athletic achievements and/or giving back to the sport through leadership, volunteer coaching and building varsity involvement in cross country skiing or biathlon.

Entrance Award ($1000)

The Entrance Award valued at $1000 is also available for an entering student that has experience in training or high level coaching in country skiing or biathlon. This award is not renewable for subsequent years.

Tuition Waivers

Three 6-credit tuition waivers  valued at approximately $1,035 each are also available to students who apply for a Nordic Sport Leadership Award.

Nordiq Canada Ski-to-School Post Secondary Grant

This scholarship is not a CNSC scholarship, but through Nordiq Canada. 

This scholarship is to be awarded to an individual who combines excellence in both academics and cross-country skiing. The scholarship has been funded by Canadian university alumni cross country skiers and other interested parties to encourage students to continue to combine excellence in both academics and cross-country skiing as they proceed with their postsecondary, university or college education.
