The Track Attack (“TA”) program is the entry into the competitive Nordic Programs offered at Caledonia Nordic Ski Club (“CNSC”). This program is offered to skiers aged U12-U14, skill development between these ages is significant. The athletes will be divided into groups based on age and skill level to ensure everyone's abilities are aligned while still being challenged. Head Coach, Simon Lamarche will oversee the program. On-snow coaching will be delivered by our dedicated volunteer club coaches and supported by parents. It is also our goal to bring our athletes in for coaching practice.

TA athletes have the option to jump right into the winter season, or meet along side our Biathlon Bears starting early September for some dry land training activities, and then transitioning into the winter season. It is a youth development program aimed at “becoming technically competent while exploring a wide range of adventure based cross­ country ski activities.” It is meant to follow the Jackrabbit program in a skill development progression, aligning with the “Learning to Train” stage of Sport Canada’s Long Term Athlete Development Plan (LTAD). Skiers are introduced to a variety of racing experiences, as well as the concept of ‘Learning to Train’ (“L2T”). It is important to note that TAs are not involved with a ‘training program’ like the Junior Racer Program, but will be introduced to knowledge regarding training zones, strength and flexibility, sleep, nutrition, hydration, ski care, how to dress to be active outside. The focus at this stage of development is all about fun, skill development and learning to train.

For athletes to reach their full potential, it is important that families ski outside of practice times, use our ski playground, and challenge their skills by skiing age appropriate distances on varied terrain in both skate and classic techniques. It is great for these skiers or biathletes to be involved in other sports, both for their athletic development and to create a well-rounded person.

Cross­ Country Canada’s TA program materials will be used as a guide and tool to help athletes be motivated and track their progress through this program. Please note that for skiers to complete their Attack Log/Map, participation at special events, races and overnight camps is recommended and encouraged. We will look to events in our region first for challenges, as well as events specifically designed for L2T athletes. Track Attack Championships is the year’s highlight for many of our TAs and Biathlon Bears. This event is stuffed full of fun racing as individual and in teams. There are awards for team spirit, costumes, best technique and recognition for more than just the top-3 winners. It’s a great first exposure to races beyond loppets. Our goal is to bring at least 20 skiers this season from CNSC! GOOO TEAM!

Fundraising and Volunteering:

The success of our programs hinge on volunteer coaches and parent help in a variety of disciplines. We ask that for every child registered in the program, there is volunteer help from at least one parent. Parents are asked to find a volunteer role that best suits their schedule, interest and abilities. The club requires both new and experienced coaches at various levels, so if you are interested in coaching and don’t want to coach your own child, that’s not a problem. We’ll help you find a suitable coaching role. The club provides coach training, and you provide your time and knowledge to develop future athletes. If you would prefer a volunteer task that does not involve coaching, fantastic! We’ve got tasks for you. There is a section of volunteer opportunities on the Zone4 registration to identify your interests. Thank you to all our volunteers!

A fundraising policy is currently under development. Families will be given the choice of actively participating in fundraising activities or paying a fundraising levy. More information will be distributed once the policy is finalized.   • Glasses or Visors for different light and weather conditions
  • Head Lamp (Mandatory to have on the skier at all practices)
  • Watch with a count down repeat setting or HR monitor with a timer on it.
  • Water Bottle that can be worn while training.

Payment notes:

  • We offer installment payments with both credit card and cheque options. The cheque option will allow you to save on credit card fees. If you select this option, we will contact you to arrange for the post-dated cheques. - Both options require an initial payment, due immediately and the remainder is paid monthly over the course of 3-5 months depending on the program.
  • Processing fees are added at checkout. In the interest of transparency these fees are not included in  program or membership fees and are shown separately.
  • Membership fees and Cash payments must be paid upfront.
  • The club is happy to offer Cash/Cheque events leading up to the start of the season - Dates and times to be announced.    Cash/Cheque days allow you to save the cost of credit card fees.
  • GST is not included in listed prices and will be added at checkout.
