Winter Fit is a new and unique program developed and tailored to young people who may not wish to become involved in competitive Nordic sports but love the outdoors, skiing and want to remain involved and active in the Nordic community. These skiers are in the Learn to Train (L2T) stage of development on the Long Term Athlete Development (LTAD) model. This program is specific to the needs, both social and physical, of this age and developmental stage. The focus is on a fun and its relaxed atmosphere. It’s hard to beat a program with a focus on skill development within a social, fun group setting.
Young athletes involved in this program attend organized and structured ‘practices’ where they work on outdoor skills, including skiing and snowshoeing and play games that reinforce the skill of the day. This program appeals to many young and teenage skiers and can accommodate a wide range of abilities and experience. It is an excellent entry point for “late starters” (those who were introduced later to the Nordic sports) and an enjoyable continuation of the Skill Development Program for young people. This program is great example of the goal that we all wish to see; that of being “Active For Life”. The focus at this stage of development is all about fun and skill development. Caledonia Nordic Ski Club is devoted to preparing skiers to be Fit For Life!
The success of this program hinges on volunteer coaches and parent help in a variety of disciplines. For every child registered in the program, there is a need for volunteer help from at least one parent. Parents are encouraged to find a volunteer role that best suits their schedule, interest and abilities. The club requires both new and experienced coaches at various levels, so if you are interested in coaching and don’t want to coach your own child, that’s not a problem. We’ll help you find a suitable coaching role. The club provides coach training, and you provide your time and knowledge to develop future athletes. If you would prefer a volunteer task that does not involve coaching, fantastic! We’ve got tasks for you. Please complete the volunteer section on the Zone4 registration to identify your interests.
