Learn 2 Ride

Learn 2 Ride

The FREE Learn2Ride – Everyone Rides Grade 4/5 HUB Cycling program, delivered in partnership with the Caledonia Nordic Ski Club and HUB Cycling, is back again this year! Learn2Ride is a fun, interactive 2-day course taught by trained instructors to build students’ cycling knowledge, skills, road safety and confidence at your school! This program is funded by the Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure.

How many classes can participate in the program?

We require a minimum of 3 (ideally 4) classes per school and can reach as many as 7 classes per school depending on the number of Grade 4 and 5 students at the school.

Note: The program is targeted to Grades 4 and 5 students. For smaller schools we encourage split classes, Grades 3/4 and 5/6, to get involved. For even smaller schools we can accommodate Grade 3 and Grade 6 students but ask you to speak to the Bike Program Coordinator in advance.

No bike. No helmet. No problem!

Students are strongly encouraged to bring their own helmets and/or bikes when possible. The Caledonia Nordic Ski Club can also bring up to 28 helmets and up to 30 bicycles of various sizes.

Take the lead!

Talk to your colleagues on who would like to be the main contact at your school. We require someone at the school to be the main organizer that will complete the Google registration form (see below), coordinate and communicate with other teachers participating in the program, and correspond with the Bike Program Coordinator regarding program scheduling, distribution of parent information (provided by the Caledonia Nordic Ski Club) and other details as needed.

More About the Program:

HUB Cycling is a charitable non-profit that delivers cycling education to schools across British Columbia to encourage kids and families to use active transportation to get to school. The Province of BC has funded a bike safety education program called Everyone Rides Grades 4/5 which delivers a course called Learn2Ride.  Day 1 includes a 1 hour in-class presentation, and Day 2 includes a 70-90-minute on-bike skills training session on the school grounds (check out this video to get an idea of what the on-bike skills day looks like!). HUB Cycling has partnered with other organizations in BC, like the Caledonia Nordic Ski Club, to make this course accessible to everyone.

Program Goals:

Cycling education for elementary students helps:

  • To learn safe cycling skills, build confidence riding, and experience the joy of cycling
  • Reach goals related to Vision Zero, climate action, active transportation, and healthy communities
  • Provide a safer way for students to get daily physical exercise and move within their community
  • To raise a generation of sustainable transportation users and safe road users
